In 2026, five years will have passed since the assassination of the last elected president, Jovenel Moïse. Many of the perpetrators, including members of the Colombian commando, are behind bars. One of the Haitian suspects, who was in charge of the president’s security at the time—Dimitri Hérard—escaped from the Port-au-Prince civil prison in early 2024 and remains at large.
