Port-au-Prince Bar Raises Concerns Over “Constitutional Fraud and Authoritarianism”

While the Steering Committee of the National Conference has transmitted to the Transitional Presidential Council the final text of the new Constitution for referendum, the document continues to be the subject of denunciations and warnings. In a report on the draft Constitution, the commission set up by the Port-au-Prince Bar Association to analyze the text criticizes the “legal irregularity and illegitimacy” of the process. It characterizes as high treason the government’s desire to change a Constitution that it had sworn to uphold and enforce.
