This August 14 should have been a day of celebration, with the new public holiday added to the calendar. Instead, it was simply a very quiet day.

Not because the decree establishing this holiday had not been published for several months in the official gazette, but rather because no one needs an extra day off in a country where everything already runs at a slow pace.

The symbolism of August 14 and of the Bois Caïman ceremony is powerful. However, the decision to have two consecutive public holidays (August 14 and 15)
