CPT Names Officials to National Commission on Haiti’s Independence Debt

The Transitional Presidential Council (CPT) has officially appointed, in a decree dated Friday, August 8, 2025, the members of the Haitian National Committee for Restitution and Reparations (CNHRR). According to the decree of April 17, 2025, which established it, the committee is composed of 21 members, including one representative from the Presidency, one from the Prime Minister’s Office, one from the Ministry of Economy and Finance, one from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, five representatives from civil society, and 12 figures from Haiti’s academic and scientific community as well as from abroad.

The composition of the CNHRR is now known. After months of waiting, its members were appointed by the CPT upon the recommendation of the Rectorate of the State University of Haiti (UEH). According to the decree of August 8, 2025, the CNHRR is chaired by UEH Rector Dieuseul Prédélus, assisted by Ronald Jean Jacques, appointed as executive secretary. Both represent the academic and scientific community.
