A First for Haiti: Dumornay Among 2025 Ballon d’Or Nominees

Haitian international player for OL Lyon, Melchie Daëlle Dumornay (21), included in the list revealed this Thursday, August 7, of the 30 nominees for the 2025 Ballon d’Or — whose winner will be announced on September 22 — has just written a new page in the history book of Haitian football and made her entry into the big leagues.

Before her, no Haitian footballer and/or player of Haitian descent (of either gender) had ever been nominated in the race for the world’s most coveted individual trophy. Getting there was no gift — in fact, it was at the cost of enormous sacrifices that Melchie Dumornay, despite her exceptional talent, managed to secure a place in the top 30 of the best female footballers on the planet and become a Ballon d’Or contender.
