Another Controversy Hits the CPT

While the country is still awaiting explanations regarding the scandal involving Presidential Advisor Smith Augustin—who was apprehended last week in the Dominican Republic—the CPT finds itself entangled in yet another troubling and confusing affair: the renewal of a contract between the National Port Authority (APN) and Caribbean Port Services (CPS).

On July 9, the Coordinator of the CPT, Fritz Alphonse Jean, wrote to Prime Minister Alix Didier Fils-Aimé requesting clarification about the renewal of said contract, which allegedly granted a lease period three times longer than the standard nine years. On August 4, the CPT published a statement claiming that everything was in order with the CPS contract. But on August 6, Fritz Alphonse Jean issued a notice stating that nothing was in order with the CPS contract and that granting a 27-year lease to CPS instead of the usual nine years
