OAS Roadmap on Haiti: Ambassador Myrtha Désulmé Highlights the Country’s Priorities

Unlike the OAS roadmap for Haiti, which allocates significantly more funds for humanitarian aid than for restoring security in the country, Haiti’s ambassador to the Hemispheric Organization maintains that the country’s top priority is, first and foremost, reestablishing security. During last week’s meeting of the Group of Friends of Haiti in Washington, Myrtha Désulmé noted that Haiti has been receiving aid for decades and remains in extreme misery and dependency.

The OAS roadmap for Haiti includes five areas of intervention, with an estimated budget of $1.3 billion: $908.2 million to finance humanitarian response, $96 million for security stabilization and peace restoration, $5.1 million for political consensus and governance support, and $104.1 million for the electoral process and institutional legitimacy.
