J.B. Damier Vocational Institution Left to Ruin

The J.B. Damier Vocational School, the mother of Haiti’s vocational schools and soon to celebrate its centennial, has been without a facility for over a year. Attacked by armed individuals in April 2024, its space—which had been operating under dilapidated shelters since the January 12 earthquake—was looted, vandalized, and set on fire. Since then, this renowned vocational training center located downtown has been nonfunctional.

While some training institutions previously based in the lower city have managed to relocate and resume operations, J.B. Damier has not been as fortunate. More than a year after the acts of vandalism that forced its closure, the school remains homeless, without even an office for its administration.
