Celebrating 70 Years of Compas with a Full Week of Events

Radio Télévision Caraïbes (RTVC) and the Centre Culturel Caraïbes (CCC) are launching a week of activities to celebrate compas (a Haitian musical genre), which marks its 70th anniversary this year. These activities will take place from July 21 to 26, 2025, on RTVC’s platforms and in other meeting venues through various discussions.

Created in 1955 by Nemours Jean Baptiste, compas is a musical style that has transcended generations, crossed borders, and endured through political contexts to establish itself as the dancing soundtrack of Haitian life. Now in its seventieth year, this rhythm has, over time, earned a place on the international stage and is recognized around the world as a symbol of Haitian identity.
