Three Haitians Compete for the 2025 RFI Theater Award

Among the 143 plays submitted from 22 countries—most of them African—three Haitian authors have been shortlisted among the 12 finalists, including seven men and five women. They are Rolaphton Mercure, Smeralda Jean Philippe Tanis, and Jamie Moom Dayiti for their respective works Furieuses, Épine, and Traduit du délire. The name of the winner of the 2025 RFI Theatre Prize will be announced on Sunday, September 28, and the prize will be awarded in Limoges during the Zébrures d’automne festival.

In a statement released on July 11, the reading committee of the Collectif À mots découverts—composed of Élise Blaché, Françoise Cousin, and Christine Gagnepain—affirmed that [the plays written by the five women, editor’s note] “are contributing more and more actively to shaping the political discourse of Francophone, and more specifically African, playwriting.”
