Delmas 24: Memory Fills What Bullets Emptied

Delmas 24, once a lively and peaceful neighborhood, is now a deserted place. Under the pressure of armed groups and growing violence, many families were forced to flee in October 2024, often in haste, leaving behind their homes, businesses, and memories. We met with some of these people to understand their journey, their suffering, but also their attachment to this neighborhood they never chose to abandon.

For more than thirty years, Pastor Jéricho lived on Sylvio Cator Street, the beating heart of Delmas 24. He had built his home there, opened a shop, built a clientele, and rented to five tenants. “The area was very calm. We lived in peace; everyone knew each other,” he recalls with emotion.
