Jean-Martin Bauer Urges Greater Support as 5.7 Million Haitians Go Hungry

Haiti is currently ranked among the five countries in the world facing the highest risk of famine, alongside Sudan, South Sudan, Mali, and Gaza, according to the latest analysis by the World Food Programme (WFP). During a visit to the country, Jean-Martin Bauer, Director of Food Security Analysis at the WFP, drew attention to this risk and the need for a humanitarian response, as the WFP’s operations in Haiti face a significant slowdown.

While recent figures from the National Coordination for Food Security (CNSA) report more than 5.7 million Haitians—over half the population—living in a state of acute food insecurity, the worst is feared, according to Jean-Martin Bauer, former director of the WFP office in Haiti.
