Understanding Vigilance Brigades in the Fight Against Armed Attacks

In the face of the insecurity plaguing the metropolitan area of Port-au-Prince, several neighborhoods have resorted to self-defense forces to anticipate the invasion of armed groups that use all means to drive peaceful citizens from their homes. Known as brigadiers, these brave fighters represent a significant force for some, even though they are viewed negatively by others. Their roles and limitations were discussed during the “Patriotic Congress for National Rescue” held at the El Rancho Hotel on Thursday, June 26, 2025.
