Is the Péligre Hydroelectric Plant a Victim of Political Divisions?

The recent forced shutdown of the Péligre hydroelectric plant is reportedly partly due to internal dissension within the executive branch. This is according to Robinson Mazarin, a member of civil society in Mirebalais, who appeared on Magik’s morning show on Wednesday, June 25, 2025.

On Tuesday, June 17, 2025, a large crowd stormed the Péligre hydroelectric plant, forcing employees to shut down operations. This marks the second time in less than a month that the plant has been closed following popular unrest. This time, in addition to halting activity, protesters also damaged a pylon supporting cables that supply electricity to Port-au-Prince.
