Council of Ministers Convenes as CPT Faces Internal Divisions

After several months of deadlock and an exchange of letters this week between the two opposing blocs within the Presidential Council, the members of the CPT and the government finally held a Council of Ministers on Tuesday, June 24. The draft decrees revising those of March 11, 2020, concerning the Penal Code and the Code of Criminal Procedure, as well as the 2025 Referendum Decree Project, were adopted.

Divided, the members of the CPT had been glaring at each other like enemies for several months before engaging in a flurry of letters this week. On one side are the presidential advisers Louis Gérald Gilles, Emmanuel Vertilaire, and Smith Augustin; on the other are Fritz Alphonse Jean (coordinator of the CPT), Leslie Voltaire, Edgard Leblanc Fils, and Frinel Joseph.
