At ExpoSciences 2025, Guy Charles Étienne Calls for Education Reform in Haiti

On Saturday, June 21, and Sunday, June 22, 2025, Collège Catts Pressoir hosted the 32nd edition of its traditional ExpoSciences, an annual event during which students from the institution present science-related projects. On this occasion, we spoke with the school’s General Director, Guy Charles Étienne, who made a case for a renewal of Haiti’s educational system.

“The education system must stop promoting rote learning, reciting, and grading. An education system should train change-makers,” declared the General Director of Collège Catts Pressoir, welcoming us into his office. For several years now, he has advocated for a system that is more practice-oriented—a vision that, he notes, has yet to find sufficient traction in Haitian society.
