Smith Augustin Clarifies His Role in Haitian Diplomacy

In an interview with Le Nouvelliste last weekend, the president of the Transitional Presidential Council (CPT), Fritz Alphonse Jean, denounced hundreds of diplomatic appointments made by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Another presidential adviser told the newspaper that Prime Minister Alix Didier Fils-Aimé and certain CPT members, such as Louis Gérald Gilles and Smith Augustin, referred more than 90% of the appointed individuals themselves. In response, presidential adviser Smith Augustin acknowledged: “I recommended about ten people and the reinstatement of a few civil servants who had been unfairly recalled. I only recommended one ambassador,” he told Le Nouvelliste.
