The National Assembly approved on Thursday a draft resolution calling for a “study of the restitution process of the double debt imposed on Haiti” 200 years ago, in exchange for recognition of the former colony’s independence by King Charles X.
The resolution, submitted by the GDR group (Communists and overseas deputies) as part of their designated parliamentary day, known as a “niche,” was approved by 53 votes to 9, the latter coming from the RN and its ally, the UDR group.
