June 1, 2025 marks the fourth anniversary of the first clashes that led to the fall of Martissant, a neighborhood located at the southern entrance of the capital, Port-au-Prince.
Martissant is also the gateway to Carrefour, the oldest suburb of the Port-au-Prince municipality, which itself was elevated to the status of a commune at the end of 1982.
As of June 1, 2025, not only has government control over Martissant never been restored, but Carrefour and its hundreds of thousands of residents have fallen under gang rule. I
