DGPC Kicks Off 2025 Hurricane Season

The Directorate General of Civil Protection (DGPC) officially launched the 2025 hurricane season for Region IV on Friday, May 30, 2025. The launch took place at the National Emergency Operations Center (COUN) in Tabarre.

Between 12 and 19 named tropical storms are expected on average during the 2025 hurricane season, reported Marcelin Esterlin, coordinator of the Hydrometeorological Unit (UHM), during his briefing, citing forecasts from various sources. Among these tropical storms, six to ten hurricanes are anticipated, including at least five major hurricanes, said Mr. Esterlin, noting an upward and above-normal forecast for the 2025 season.
