In response to the uncontrolled rise of armed gangs, the Haitian government has signed a contract with Erik Prince, founder of the private military company Blackwater and associate of Donald Trump, reports The New York Times. Prince is said to have begun operating armed drones in Haiti since March 2025 and plans to send up to 150 mercenaries, along with a cache of weapons, to support local forces, according to the American newspaper.
