New Constitution Draft Proposes Significantly Stronger Presidential Powers

The draft of the new Constitution proposed by the Steering Committee makes the President of the Republic both the Head of State and the Head of Government. The document removes Parliament’s influence in the selection of the Prime Minister and the formation of the government.

The section dedicated to the President of the Republic in the draft Constitution differs on several levels from the provisions in the current Constitution on the same matter.
