Preliminary Draft of New Constitution Formally Presented

In the presence of executive officials, including members of the Transitional Presidential Council (CPT), Prime Minister Alix Didier Fils-Aimé, members of his cabinet, the Special Representative of the UN Secretary-General, Maria Isabel Salvador, and the Permanent Representative of the UNDP in Haiti, among others, the official handover ceremony for the draft of the new Haitian Constitution was held this Wednesday, May 21, 2025, at the Villa d’Accueil. For the CPT, this event marks a symbolic and decisive step in the institutional restructuring process aimed at restoring democratic and republican stability in the country.

The draft constitution was presented to the president of the Transitional Presidential Council, Fritz Alphonse Jean. Developed by the Steering Committee of the National Conference in accordance with its assigned mission, this initiative, according to the CPT spokesperson, reflects the Council's strong determination to equip the country with the legal instruments necessary to lead the nation toward a referendum that will ratify the final version of the Constitution.
