GARR Reports Over 23,000 Haitians Repatriated from the Dominican Republic in April

The number of deportations of Haitian migrants living in the Dominican Republic increased significantly during the month of April. Children, people with disabilities, and even pregnant and nursing women were not spared from this wave of repatriation carried out by Dominican immigration agents. In its report on the situation of Haitians turned back at the border for the month of April 2025, presented during a press conference at its offices on Wednesday, May 14, 2025, the Support Group for Repatriated and Refugees (GARR) recorded a total of 23,123 Haitians repatriated to the borders separating Haiti and the Dominican Republic.

Among the deported individuals, GARR counted 15,934 men, 5,426 women, 824 girls, and 934 boys. GARR noted that Dominican immigration agents carried out these repatriations at several border points without considering the migrants' origin. Once they arrived at the border, many of them struggled to reunite with their families due to the distance between the border and their home regions. According to GARR, 12,260 people were repatriated to Belladère, 7,098 to Ouanaminthe, 2,078 to Anse-à-Pitres, and 1,687 to Malpasse.
