Ira Paul Lowenthal, Haitian Culture Specialist and Great Friend of Haiti, Passes Away

American anthropologist and ethnologist Ira Paul Lowenthal passed away on Wednesday, April 23, 2025, after a long battle with cancer. He was known for his work on Haiti for nearly four decades, including the research that led to his doctoral dissertation.

“It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Ira Paul Lowenthal, who passed away peacefully on April 23, 2025, surrounded by his family, after a long battle with cancer,” reads a statement from the deceased’s family.
