CPT Marks 200 Years Since Haiti’s Independence Ransom

On Thursday, April 17, 2025, the Transitional Presidential Council (CPT) commemorated the bicentennial of King Charles X’s ordinance recognizing the independence of the Republic of Haiti. The ceremony was held in the presence of several members of the CPT, Prime Minister Alix Didier Fils-Aimé, the acting Director General of the Haitian National Police (PNH), Rameau Normil, the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Haiti (FAD’H), Derby Guerrier, and the Director of the State University of Haiti, Dieuseul Prédelus.

In his remarks, CPT Coordinator Fritz Alphonse Jean provided a historical overview of the steps taken by the former French colonial power leading to King Charles X’s ordinance. He also recalled the consequences of paying the independence debt on Haiti’s economy.
