War Budget Pending, Security State of Emergency Renewed...

Since Fritz Alphonse Jean took the helm of the Presidential Transitional Council (CPT) on March 7, the CPT and the Prime Minister’s Office held their very first Council of Ministers meeting on April 7—exactly one month later. A Council of Ministers meeting solely to renew the security state of emergency for one month. Members of the CPT told Le Nouvelliste that another Council meeting is scheduled for this coming Friday to discuss the war budget and to adopt a decree that will extend the security state of emergency in the country for three additional months.

For a month, the Presidential Council and the Prime Minister’s Office had not managed to organize a Council of Ministers meeting to “administer and lead” the country. While the two branches of the executive had been communicating, they had not taken any formal or legal decision until April 7. “There was a Council of Ministers this Monday solely to adopt the order renewing the state of emergency,” a CPT member told Le Nouvelliste by phone after the meeting.
