Criminal Gangs Take Control of Saut-d’Eau

The commune of Saut-d’Eau, in the Central Department, is now under the control of armed men, according to multiple sources contacted by Le Nouvelliste.

After several months of resistance, Saut-d’Eau finally fell to the repeated assaults of the Viv Ansanm gang coalition. The town center, the last stronghold held by the population and law enforcement, fell on the morning of Thursday, April 3.

“In the afternoon of April 2, they invaded our locality. They burned down my house, another belonging to my family, and destroyed our mill. They looted and set fire to homes and businesses that supported the resistance,” said former Saut-d’Eau MP Romuald Smith.
