Where Have the Vocal Political Parties Gone?

Since the major protest movements and rounds of “peyi lòk” against former President Jovenel Moïse up until his assassination in July 2021, political organizations have become increasingly invisible, less vocal, and have made no demands whatsoever for elections to be held in the country. With the signing of the September 11, 2021 and December 21, 2023 agreements, former Prime Minister Ariel Henry literally governed the country without opposition. With the signing of the April 3, 2024 agreement, the political class simply went into hibernation after taking power without any counterbalance.

The leaders of traditional political parties are now in office. It's not that they’ve become businessmen and women, but rather that they are tending to their own interests within the affairs of the state. They are in power. Those who are not directly at the helm are circling around it, waiting for their turn. The main political organizations in the country with an electoral tradition are signatories of the April 3 agreement, which led to the establishment of the nine-member Presidential Council.
