Meet Jean-Claude Théogène: Vice President of the Court of Cassation

Jean-Claude Théogène, a native of Cap-Haïtien, joined the Court of Cassation in February 2019 as vice president. Far from the spotlight of Port-au-Prince, Magistrate Théogène, with his 38 years of experience and as a university professor, built his reputation in his native region before reaching the highest level of the Haitian judiciary.

He never sought glory or fame. Thanks to his long-standing service in the Haitian judiciary, Jean-Claude Théogène is now regarded as a living monument of the country’s judicial system. He began his career as a judge the year following the end of the Duvalier dictatorship, during a time marked by major national challenges. He started as deputy government commissioner in Fort-Liberté in October 1987, before being promoted to judge, then government commissioner at the Court of First Instance of Fort-Liberté.
