INURED Report Sheds Light on Various Aspects of the Haiti-Brazil-Chile Migration Route

Since the 2010 earthquake, Haitian migration to Latin America has reached unprecedented levels, marked by continuous movements across several countries in the region. Drawn by economic opportunities and pushed by Haiti’s socio-political and environmental crises, many Haitians seek to build a future elsewhere. However, this migratory journey is fraught with obstacles, balancing between hopes of integration and growing rejection from host countries. In its report titled "Migration and Circulation of Haitians in Latin America", based on studies conducted between May 2019 and February 2023 with the support of the Migration for Development and Equality Network (MIDEQ), the Interuniversity Institute for Research and Development (INURED) sheds light on various aspects of the migration corridor Haitians use to reach Latin American countries.

INURED’s study employs multiple methods, including household surveys, ethnographic research, and document analysis. It examines several aspects of migration, such as the decision to migrate, migration-related challenges, the role of gender in migration, as well as the benefits and difficulties of migration, among others.
