April 3 Agreement Signatories Struggle to Convene on CPT’s Future

The nine sectors that signed the April 3 Agreement, which led to the formation of the Transitional Presidential Council (CPT), were supposed to meet last month to decide the fate of the CPT following their December 16 meeting with CARICOM. However, they have failed to organize a single meeting on the issue, as deep divisions persist over potential changes to the CPT.

Since the April 3, 2024 Agreement was signed, the nine sectors have been unable to meet without CARICOM’s presence, according to signatories who spoke to Le Nouvelliste. After their virtual meeting on December 16 with CARICOM’s Eminent Persons, these actors were supposed to propose a crisis resolution plan for the CPT, which has been plagued by corruption allegations involving three of its members.
