Insecurity: What Has Become of Petit Séminaire Collège Saint-Martial?

Attacked on April 1, 2024, by armed gangs operating in Bel-Air and downtown Port-au-Prince, the Petit Séminaire Collège Saint-Martial (PSCSM) was forced to abandon its campus. The 160-year-old institution suffered massive material losses, including looting, vandalism, and arson, leaving it in a precarious state. In an interview with Le Nouvelliste, PSCSM Director, Father Isaac Aujour, reflected on the tragic events and the current challenges facing the school.

As the 2023-2024 academic year neared its end, armed groups stormed the school, forcing its closure in the midst of widespread insecurity. With students unable to return, Father Aujour arranged for a temporary relocation to Saint-Joseph School, run by the Brothers of Christian Instruction in Pétion-Ville, allowing students to complete the school year.
