Displaced by Violence: UEH Faculties Struggle Without a Permanent Address

The State University of Haiti (UEH), the country's largest university, is struggling to relocate its faculties. As the first anniversary of the events of February 29, 2024, approaches, several UEH entities are still searching for a location and are essentially operating without a permanent home.

On that fateful day, February 29, 2024, when the reconstituted criminal coalition Viv Ansanm began its attacks on the capital, students present on the campus of the Faculty of Agronomy and Veterinary Medicine (FAMV) were taken hostage by armed gangs. After numerous calls for help, the students were eventually able to leave the campus. However, the FAMV’s buildings and facilities were vandalized and looted. Since then, students have not returned to the campus.
