The situation has persisted for months and is all too familiar to those in charge. In most provincial towns across the country, banks and money transfer services struggle to serve their customers. They ration withdrawals and limit the amount of gourdes or dollars that clients can take from their accounts.
In both cases, the reason is straightforward: no one can access as much cash as they need. The roads are controlled by gangs, coastal shipping routes are no safer for transporting money, and air traffic is heavily disrupted.
