BRH Calls Attention to Unequal Credit Access for Women in Haiti

The latest monetary policy note from the Bank of the Republic of Haiti (BRH) highlights significant disparities in credit allocation. With over 60% of loans granted to men, both in gourdes and foreign currencies, women struggle to access financing despite their substantial role in the economy.

In its monetary policy note, the BRH provided a detailed breakdown of credit distribution as of August 30, 2024. Of the 94,164 loans issued by the financial sector, 96.53% were granted to individuals. However, a closer analysis of the data reveals striking gender disparities in access to financing.
