AMH Sounds the Alarm on Threats to the Medical System Due to Vandalized Health Facilities

Medical infrastructure is being targeted by armed criminals terrorizing the Haitian population. Vandalism, arson, and even total destruction—such acts against healthcare facilities are numerous. The latest incident involved the ransacking and burning of part of Bernard Mevs Hospital by criminals based on Airport Road on December 16 and 17, 2024.

The attacks on Bernard Mevs Hospital at the beginning of the week have added to the growing list of healthcare institutions rendered non-operational due to armed violence. According to Dr. Jean Ardouin Louis Charles of the Haitian Medical Association (AMH), approximately 40 healthcare facilities are either out of service or operating at reduced capacity in the metropolitan area of Port-au-Prince.
