Human Rights Watch Sounds Alarm on Increasing Sexual Violence

Criminal groups in Haiti escalated attacks on the population in recent weeks, subjecting girls and women to horrific sexual abuse, Human Rights Watch reported on Monday, November 25, 2024. The report highlights the alarming prevalence of sexual violence in the country and the lack of access to essential services for survivors.

“Sexual violence is widespread, and many survivors lack access to essential services and protection,” said Nathalye Cotrino, a researcher with the Crises, Conflicts, and Arms division at Human Rights Watch (HRW), speaking on Magik 9’s morning show on Wednesday, November 27, 2024.

According to Cotrino, most victims do not receive medical, psychosocial, or legal support.
