Haiti's Foreign Minister on Macron's declaration: "The incident is over"

Haitian Foreign Minister Jean-Victor Harvel Jean-Baptiste announced that "the incident is closed for now" after summoning French Ambassador to Haiti Antoine Michon to explain French President Emmanuel Macron's controversial comments about Haitian leaders. The Minister also sent a formal letter to the French Foreign Minister expressing Haiti's disapproval.

Speaking during a visit to Le Nouvelliste on Thursday, November 21, 2024, Minister Jean-Baptiste addressed the backlash caused by Macron’s remarks. The controversy began when Macron, responding to a Haitian citizen's question about Haiti’s situation following the G20 summit, referred to the members of Haiti's Transitional Presidential Council (CPT) as "idiots" for dismissing Prime Minister Garry Conille, whom he described as "outstanding."
