Visits at La Paix University Hospital Rise by 200%, Putting Pressure on Medical Staff

The Hôpital universitaire la Paix (HUP), a public health facility located in Delmas 33, has been under increasing pressure due to the surge in patients following the closure of the Hôpital de l’Université d’État d’Haïti (HUEH) in February and the recent announcement of the closure of Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) medical facilities in the Port-au-Prince metropolitan area.

Speaking on the Magik 9 morning show on Friday, November 22, 2024, Dr. Jean Philippe Lerebourg, the medical director of HUP, reported a 200% increase in patient volume across all hospital departments compared to the previous year. “The hospital receives an average of 300 patients daily, either for consultations or emergencies. We are registering an average of 85 deliveries per week, with 25 of them being cesarean sections,” Dr. Lerebourg stated.
