Prime Minister Fils-Aimé urges citizen involvement in efforts to stabilize social peace

The Haitian authorities appear to have limited options for countering the violent attacks by armed gangs targeting the population. Amid international resistance to transforming the Multinational Security Support Mission (MSS) into a United Nations peacekeeping force, the mixed results of Kenyan soldiers' deployment in Haiti, and the overstretched resources of the National Police, Prime Minister Alix Didier Fils-Aimé is now calling on citizens to actively participate in restoring peace.

In recent weeks, criminal gangs have escalated deadly attacks across various areas of the capital. Port-au-Prince and its surroundings remain tense. Earlier this week, Le Nouvelliste observed lifeless bodies on the streets in several neighborhoods. Residents have resorted to erecting barricades to block gang advances, and in some cases, have taken justice into their own hands.
