Pétion-Ville Hit by Violence: Authorities Report 28 Suspected Bandits Dead

Several neighborhoods in the metropolitan region of Port-au-Prince awoke to heightened tension on Tuesday, November 19, 2024. According to a preliminary report from the Haitian National Police (PNH), 28 gang members were killed after attempting to invade the commune of Pétion-Ville. The assailants were intercepted en route in the areas of Canapé-Vert, Lalue, and Bourdon.

The PNH’s spokesperson, Lionel Lazarre, confirmed on Magik 9 radio that the operations between Bourdon and Pétion-Ville led to the deaths of 28 gang members, with police continuing to track others involved.

This escalation began after the PNH intercepted a truck and a minibus transporting armed individuals near Poste-Marchand and Avenue Panaméricaine around 2 a.m. The vehicles were headed toward Pétion-Ville, allegedly part of a planned attack.

During the interception, a gunfight ensued
