FADH: Haiti Aims to Train 20,000 Soldiers over the Next Five Years

Speaking at the House of Soldiers of the Inter-American Defense Board (JID) in Washington, Haitian Defense Minister Jean-Marc Berthier Antoine called for international solidarity, particularly from OAS member and observer states, to join efforts to rebuild Haiti’s Armed Forces. The goal is to train 20,000 soldiers over the next five years, at a rate of 4,000 recruits per year.

The government’s vision is to transform the Haitian Armed Forces (FADH) into a true institution, a genuine army, especially given the weak response of national security forces to gang violence in recent years. According to the Defense Minister, it is essential to redefine certain security and defense partnerships with regional countries to achieve better results.
