Leslie Voltaire's Unfortunate Experience with the Brazilian Protocol

Leslie Voltaire, a member of the Presidential Transition Council (CPT), unsuccessfully attempted to join a bilateral meeting between Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva and Haitian Prime Minister Garry Conille. Accompanied by the CPT’s chief of staff, Harvel Jean-Baptiste, Voltaire was denied entry by Brazil's protocol service and a Brazilian security official.

As the closed-door talks had been underway for over 15 minutes between President Lula and Prime Minister Conille, Voltaire arrived at the Brazilian Mission’s headquarters at 747 3rd Avenue, New York. Voltaire and Jean-Baptiste, a former Haitian ambassador to Brazil, made their way to the meeting room. Some Haitian journalists present in the hallway witnessed the scene. However, they were stopped by Brazilian security officers.
