The visit of U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken to Haiti on September 5, 2024, underscores, if it were needed, the difficulties the country is facing.
The American diplomat did not meet with any Haitian officials behind closed doors. Instead, he met the Foreign Minister on the tarmac at Toussaint Louverture Airport and invited the President of the Presidential Transition Council and the Prime Minister to meet him at the official residence of the U.S. Ambassador in Haiti.
