Minister of Economy and Finance Updates on the 2023 2024 Budget Revision

The CPT-PM executive branch released the decree adjusting the initial 2023-2024 budget. In an interview with Le Nouvelliste, Minister of Economy and Finance Ketleen Florestal discusses the increase in security spending, government social programs, mobilization of funds from the IMF and the Treasury to finance these programs, the low level of absorption of the investment budget, the lack of budgetary support for the fiscal year, the decision to avoid monetary financing from the BRH, and the notable decrease in external debt payments.

Le Nouvelliste: Security is the government’s priority. Do the allocations in the revised budget reflect this priority?

Ketleen Florestal: Security remains a priority in the revised budget. Investment credits initially allocated to the Haitian National Police (PNH), which represented 19% of the funding from the Treasury, now account for 39%. For the Armed Forces of Haiti (FAD’H), this proportion has increased from 4.66% to 5.26%.
