Paris 2024 Olympics: Honorary Participation for the Haitian Delegation

On August 8, 2024, Haiti’s last representative at the Paris 2024 Summer Olympics, Émélia Andréa Chatfield, competing in the 100m hurdles, exited the competition. This elimination came as no surprise, joining the six other athletes who had already been eliminated. Haiti’s performance, with none of its athletes reaching the semifinals in their events, was anticipated given the preparation and funding—or lack thereof—provided by the government and sports authorities.

As of August 8, 2024, no Haitian athletes remain in the competition following Chatfield’s exit in the 100m hurdles, despite her being a repechage. She finished second-to-last in her heat. Prior to her, Christopher Borzor, in the 100m, had impressed spectators by winning his heat in the first round on August 3. However, his journey ended in the quarterfinals.
