Civil Society Initiative Calls for Action on Security and Corruption

The Civil Society Initiative (ISC) says it is observing "with deep concern the alarming developments" in the security and sociopolitical situation in Haiti since the inauguration of the Presidential Transition Council and the government led by Prime Minister Gary Conille.

In a press release issued on Wednesday, August 7, 2024, the ISC regrets that, in terms of security, the Prime Minister’s call for bandits to lay down their arms and recognize the authority of the state has been largely ignored. “Despite the losses incurred, gangs are organizing to resist and counter the efforts of national and multinational forces. They are even targeting the convoys of the highest state authorities. They seem to have no trouble recruiting and procuring weapons and ammunition,” the ISC notes in the statemen
