On a hill overlooking Port-au-Prince, in Canapé-Vert, the Sainte-Marie community, comprising between 200 and 300 households, is served by two distinct cemeteries: Melléry and Sainte-Marie. These eternal resting places, situated within residential areas, highlight the complex coexistence of the living and the dead.

The Melléry cemetery is striking in its appearance. At first glance, it resembles a large residential building without a roof more than a burial site. In front of this cemetery, an emotional scene unfolds: mourners weep while heated family discussions threaten to escalate into altercations.
