Port-au-Prince, one of the most populous Francophone cities in the Americas, celebrates its 275th anniversary on June 13, 2024. This milestone is almost anecdotal, given that the historic downtown of Port-au-Prince has been reduced to its barest form. The state, through its institutions, as well as residents and businesses, have fled or have been forced to flee the city, leaving it to criminal gangs who now impose their rule.
